Payments Following the Death of a Full-Time Employee

1. PURPOSE

This policy provides guidance to Brigham Young University–Hawaii ("BYU–Hawaii" or "university") regarding the determination and payment of a deceased employee’s final salary payment.

2. POLICY

Upon the death of a full-time employee the university will make payment, within three working days, of any earned salary and unpaid vacation to the spouse or surviving children or estate of a full-time employee who dies while employed at the university. This is in addition to the voluntary gift from the university, when appropriate.

3. IMPLEMENTATION

3.1 Definitions

3.1.1 Full-time employee

This includes faculty, administrative staff and regular full-time staff.

3.1.2 Voluntary gift

This is a monetary amount, determined by the university, which is paid to the surviving spouse or dependent children.
