Children in the Workplace
1. Purpose
This policy is designed to ensure the protection, safety and welfare of Brigham Young University–Hawaii (“BYU–Hawaii” or “university”) employees' children and to maintain a professional work environment.
2. Policy
Employees are not permitted to bring children to the workplace for the purpose of providing childcare during work hours. This includes prolonged periods where children would need significant attention and care, as this may impact work duties and workplace safety.
3. Implementation
3.1 Short Visits
On occasion, employees may want to briefly share their workplace environment with their children. Short visits by employees' children, where the child is accompanied by a parent or guardian, are permitted under the following guidelines:
- Visits should be brief and not disrupt the workflow of the employee or their colleagues.
- Children should remain under the direct supervision of the parent or guardian at all times.
- Visits should not interfere with meetings, presentations, or any other work-related activities.
3.2 Emergencies
If an emergency arises where an employee needs to have a child with them at work, they should work with their supervisor while other childcare arrangements are being made.
