Employees Working at the Temple

1. PURPOSE

This policy informs employees of Brigham Young University–Hawaii (“BYU–Hawaii or “university”) of the options provided for them if they choose to serve in the Laie Hawaii Temple.

2. POLICY

Employees may render service at the Laie Hawaii Temple during normal scheduled work hours with approval from their supervisor and director of their department prior to beginning volunteer service.

3. IMPLEMENTATION

3.1 Time Commitment

Employees cannot volunteer for morning or afternoon temple shifts during the work week and are limited to one evening shift per week.  Volunteer service at the temple is strictly voluntary and non-compensable. If the employee takes time away from their regular work hours to provide voluntary temple service, it is expected that they will make up those hours (total of 40) during the same work week. Eligible employees have the option to use accrued vacation to perform voluntary temple service.  See the Conflict of Interest policy.
